Shocking Act: Mahatma Gandhi Statue Vandalized in Odisha's Kendrapara District

Kendrapara: In a distressing event, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was damaged in Kendrapara district, Odisha, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation, as confirmed by police on Wednesday.


The statue, situated at a government primary school in Nilikana village within the Derabish police jurisdiction, was vandalized on Tuesday night.


Reports indicate that the statue was not only uprooted but also defaced.


Block Education Officer Debadutta Satapathy expressed his dismay, stating, "This is a regrettable act and a disrespect to the father of our nation. The Education Department is treating this matter with utmost seriousness and has commenced an investigation. A police report has been filed."


Legal action has been initiated under multiple sections of the BNS, including section 298, which pertains to the desecration of places of worship or sacred objects, along with the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.


The Inspector-In-Charge of Derabish police station, Ambika Prasad Das, mentioned that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this incident.
